Foreign Breakfast is made up of four siblings and three longtime family friends, two of whom are also siblings. The band includes: Nathan Reed, Elizabeth Reed, Ben Reed, Josh Reed, Marc Barbier, Joseph Barbier, and Brian Norton.
Foreign Breakfast got its start when Nathan was in bed for several days after a knee surgery and began writing songs. His siblings loved them and suggested he play them out. So, they called up a few friends, booked some shows, sent out some Facebook invitations…and Foreign Breakfast was born.
Foreign Breakfast has been described as everything from folk to rock to pop to experimental. The band’s wide range of musical influences (from bluegrass to synth pop) and unique instrumentation gives it a somewhat eclectic sound.
Our “usual” set-up includes guitar, drums, flute, piano, bass, mandolin, and banjo. We have also from time-to-time included ukulele, accordion, doumbek, and a kitchen pot.
Three of us have taught guitar (at the same music store). And one now teaches piano (to another band member, among others).
Several of us have lived overseas, and we all love foreign food (that’s partly where the name comes from).
The band has over 50 original songs. The content of these songs range from relationships to Disney stories to travels abroad to apocalyptic eschatological views.
